As a rule, the routes of travel by Braslav lakes begin with lake Drivyaty. The underwater part is reminiscent of the hilly terrain – deep seats alternating with vast uplifts, numerous shoals. Experienced fishermen can easily perechislyayut names more than fifty banks: the White road, Sacred, the Edge, Mikutsky, Lesica, Long, castle, Boat, Thick, Okunevka, Cherepy, Malka, Plain, Podreczna, etc. There are six small Islands. Along the coast stretches a wide, sometimes 100 meters, a strip of shallow water. The bottom is mostly sandy. In some places in shallow water preserved glacial boulders. The biggest one, about 3 meters long, is located in the North-Eastern part of the lake, not far from the beach camp site. On the surface of the visible only part of it.

The lake is open to winds from any direction, often raising a rather large wave. In cloudy windy weather, the water acquires a leaden hue. This color, foamy crests of waves, the sound of the surf at the shore-just like the sea. Tranquil lake Drivyaty will see not so often, but due to intensive mixing of its water quickly warms up and is slightly warmer than in adjacent, deeper lakes. In addition, the water well oxygenated, which is very significant for most species of fish. Since ancient times, the Drivyaty lake was considered the most fish throughout the region. In the XIX – early XX century three-quarters of the lake belonged to the count’s family, Broil-Plyaters from the Belmont estate, and a quarter of the local Church. The owner handed over the lease Drivyaty in fish for huge for those times the sum – more than 6 thousand rubles. Income from catching, of course, exceed the rent. First of all, the Drivyaty was famous for Zander.

In the late nineteenth century during one winter Tonya managed to catch the 1100 pounds of valuable fish species. Usually at Tonya caught 30-50 pounds. The Braslav town was considered very special in taste and appreciated for the sale. Mined in the Drivyaty and rare for Belarus fish of the salmon family: salawu (vendace), and stinky (smelt). And smelt and vendace love water, rich in oxygen and very clean. According to the testimony of old residents, water from the Braslav lakes was more delicious than from wells, and is perfectly suited for brewing tea. The fish produced in the lake Drivyaty implemented in major cities of Dvinsk, Vilna, and in winter took to the markets of Riga, Sankt-Petersburg, Warsaw.

Now the fishing value of the lake has decreased significantly. Whitefish and pike are caught in very small quantities. From valuable kinds there are bream, pike, burbot. In the Drivyaty lake and the famous eel, famous for delicious deli meats, and in newspaper articles gave him a resounding nickname “king of the blue fields”, as the people lovingly call “uncle acne”. It is surrounded by a halo of legends and mysteries. The fish-snake (because the structure of your body acne is very similar to reptile) – this alone gives rise to the appearance of legends.

Now the lake level is supported by 11 smaller rivers and streams that carry their waters. Their Drivet follows only one river – Troika, which connects this lake with other lakes the largest group and the Western Dvina. Lightly held in 30 years of reclamation work in the valley of Twiki led to the fall of the water level in most of the Braslav lakes national Park to 3 meters. Square Drivet decreased from 38.2 percent to 32.6 sq km along the coast formed a wide riparian strip.

The construction of hydroelectric dams on Juice only partially helped to restore the water level. Riparian strip, especially along the North shore, and now recalls careless vmeshatelstva human in nature.
